Build A School Project

The Middle School children in our town are presently using five rooms in an old building located in the Ranchitos area of San Carlos. There are plans to use the building for other purposes. The Education Department of Sonora is planning on building a new school for the children. The land for the school has already been donated by Don Rafael Caballero who is a member of the Club Rotario de San Carlos. The problem is that the new school will only have three small rooms.

Current location of the Middle School

The San Carlos Rotary club has a long history of support for the Middle School. Several years ago, the San Carlos club, the Tucson clubs, and a matching grant from the Rotary Foundation provided the equipment and supplies for a computer lab, a chemistry/science laboratory, and a library at the old building where space was available there for these purposes. Because the plans for the new school provide only for three classrooms, we have decided to help build the three rooms necessary to house the equipment that Rotary purchased, and let the children continue learning in their computer and chemistry labs and have a small library.

We propose that each room be approximately 4 meters by 8 meters which is a standard classroom size here in Sonora, Mexico. We understand that Rotary Foundation funds cannot be acquired for this project because of the Foundation's restrictions against providing money for buildings, so we are counting on the money to be supplied by our Club, the community of San Carlos, and through international Club to Club donations. Additional non-construction costs are anticipated in order to remove the existing equipment and supplies from the current school location; store these materials until the new rooms are available for occupancy; and, finally, install the equipment in the new rooms.
